Music Download Sites
May 24th, 2007 by Babs

A quick question for music downloading fans on my flist: Do any of the online music stores allow you the option of downloading in WMA format? The closest I’ve found so far is Rhaspody, which allows you to download RAX files that can be converted to WMA using their software. I’m trying to avoid conversion, though, unless I know for certain that the “original” is a lossless file type.

Any suggestions?

For the female fitness fans on my flist
May 22nd, 2007 by Babs

I had to take a break from “The Witch Book”, so instead I spent last night reading “Fit + Female” by Geralyn B. Coopersmith. Good stuff. A lot of it I already knew from being a Covert Bailey groupie, but the information about the different body types, and the realistic goals and routines for each of them is quite interesting.

According to the book I’m an Endo-Pear, which means I’m bottom heavy, tend to gain weight easily, have to be careful about strength training because I can bulk up easily, and no matter how lean I get I will always be curvy. Apparently, since the Endo-Pear isn’t the currently preferred body type, I also have very few role models to look up to. *sobs* I have no one to validate my curves! Whatever shall I do?!

Maybe I’ll dial 1-800-MIXALOT.

Well. Glenn officially gets his raise this week. A whole whopping $16, pre-taxes. šŸ˜› After being up half the night trying to figure out how this family of four (five, if you consider one is a teen) going to continue to survive on $400 a week, especially after they raise our rent in July (and you know they’re going to raise our rent), I pulled out the Help Wanted segment from our Sunday paper.

Blech! Since when did supermarkets require resumes?

I filled out an application with the local Whole Foods, for either a cashier or customer service position. I know a couple of people there, and they’ve been there for years so it can’t be all that bad. The local theatre is hiring. While I consider it a “temporary until I gradute and get a real job” job, my former library cohort part-times there. If I can get the position and finagle a schedule where I’m working with her most of the time I can deal. I might also suck it up and talk to my former boss in the Children’s Room at the library.

In other news: Has anyone on my flist read Buckland’s “The Witch Book”? Does it get any better? I just wrapped up the intro and I’m already thinking “Gee, even at $5.99 this is some expensive bonfire kindling.” *rolls eyes*

Something to ponder

According to this article about half of those attending college shouldn’t be there. Considering how expensive college is nowadays, it might be worthwhile to consider whether a vocational school might be a better choice. Especially since most are funding via the public schools.
