Still Here
Mar 24th, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Still Here</div>

I’ve been battling a nasty cold for the past week. No strength to exercise yet, at the same time, I’ve been craving every comfort food I can get my hands on. My current fetish is chocloate milk. Thankfully I have skim milk and sugar-free chocolate syrup.

I missed last week’s colorguard practice because of the cold but managed to make it to the Abington parade last Sunday. Since Abington is next door to Rockland and they’ve combined most of their forces, naturally Rockland’s Defenders (the other corps. I was looking at) were there. My uncle mentioned he had checked out some of their practices but I didn’t see him in the hornline. Us former Light Brigaders did glean substantial gossip fodder from the drumline, however, but I’m not going to discuss that here. šŸ˜› The truly amusing part came at the end of the parade. While we were loading up the equipment onto the bus a guy came over and started talking with members of our drumline. The guy was Mark. You know, the the guy I was supposedly flirtling heavily, and secretly wanted to have an affair, with? He was standing right in front of Glenn, who did not recognize him. And no, I’m not going to tell him even though it would give me immense pleasure to rub it into Mr. I See Everything’s face.

In other news, I seriously need to get a referral for a hearing specialist. I don’t know how or why but it seems the delta wave music that I listen to when I have my boughts of insomnia is triggering a buzzing in my left ear. I know it’s the music because whenever I stop listening to it for awhile (even if I’m blasting other types of music through my ear buds) the buzzing disappates. Plus, I recently acquired some delta wave tracks from another company. Unlike Dr. Jeffrey Thomspon’s stuff where the tones used to produce the brainwave activity are “inaudible”, this other company only masks the tones with nature sounds. You can still hear them. And one of the tones they use is identical to the one I hear when my ear buzzes. It’s mystery as to how this happened. I always keep the volume of my sleep music to one notch above “mute” so it’s not like it’s damage due to it being too loud. *shrugs*

Finally. In keeping with the tagline of my blog, I encourage everyone to go out and rent “The Girl Next Door” (the unrated version). Yes, I know it’s essentially “Risky Business” but there are enough differences to keep those who have seen that movie on their toes. And, IMHO, Emile Hirsch beats Tom Cruise hands down in talent, cuteness, and a few other things I won’t mention here (but I’m sure fangirls can easily think of). Oh, and Rebecca De Mornay’s got nothing on Elisha Cuthbert.

Weekly Weigh In
Feb 24th, 2009 by Babs

No weight loss this week but I did sc00nch down a smidgen in the body fat: 32.4%. I’m not going to even try to figure out how much exercise I got in this week, other than I only worked out on half the days I had planned. šŸ˜› I missed yesterday, too, but I plan on making that up tomorrow. It does feel good to be getting back into the routine!

In other news, my Sansa Clip is working again. Not because of the firmware upgrade, however. It turns out that the formatting of the Clip’s drive is different than what is commonly used for mp3 players. When I was having the trouble with transfers freezing (the result of the Rhapsody application becoming corrupted) I formatted my Clip using Rhapsody’s “format device” option. Rhapsody used the common formatting, which caused the Clip to have a conniption as it tried to locate the data. Per instructions from the Sansa forums I formatted my Clip using its own option. Now everything’s hunky dory! Well, except for the fact that I need to do a 600+ track transfer for the fourth time!

My Kingdom for a New Theme!
Feb 20th, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">My Kingdom for a New Theme!</div>

I’ve been spending the last few hours finishing up Maxwell’s site. All the fics have been untagged and recategorized to work with the Multiple Category Selection Widget, with hope that it will make it easier for readers to find their kinks. šŸ™‚ The site is as updated as it’s going to get until we find a theme that screams “Max”. I’m still pissed that roam2rome bailed on her Coffee Desk theme. That was the best one, so far.

On a related note, can anyone tell me the significance of using Feedburner? I was running the feed for Max’ site through them, but Google’s mandatory move kinda fucked things up. If there’s a really good reason (i.e. other than knowing how many subscribers via RSS Max has) I might attempt to fix it. Otherwise I’m going to stick with the original post/comment feeds.

The preteen is grounded again. He just will not leave the ringer on the new phone alone! I hate grounding him (it’s as much punishment for me as it is for him) but I have no idea what else to do.

I picked up the yarn to make the skirt I mentioned in a previous post. One of the good things about Caron Simply Soft is that it has no dye lot. Since the pattern doesn’t give yarn requirements for the big girl sizes I had to estimate. If I run out before I’m finished I can easily get more, without worrying about a chunk of the skirt having a noticeable change in coloration.

We took the boys out to Chipotle for dinner. While the preteen enjoyed his pizza from Subway, the rest of us snarfed down burritos. I still think Boloco is better (and cheaper) but Ben was quite content with his bean-free chicken burrito and bottle if Izze.

Still exercising. Aside from Monday (my shoulder) and Wednesday (Ooo! Shiny!) I’ve been keeping on top of things. Ben was entertaining himself earlier today by poking at my belly and watching it jiggle. I’m at that point were the muscle is starting to get toned, but the skin and the fat still need to catch up. šŸ˜›

Now I have to plug in my Sansa Clip (which, I’m told, rivals the Creative Zen Stone and makes the iPod Shuffle fanboys cry) and see if the firmware update solves my recently developed problem with long subscription tracks popping and snapping — something I so enjoy listening to while I’m trying to meditate. Wish me luck!

A belated Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrated it!

I’ve been spending the past two days loading up my new Sansa Clip. It’s got twice the space than my old Sansa, plus it officially works with Rhapsody to Go. This means I only have to renew the license, instead of reformating and reloading the damn player, each month. Woot! Sadly, it seems everyone and their mother is currently downloading from Rhapsody. I’ve had the occasional glitch where a download would grind to a halt before it was completed before, but this is crazy! In addition to regularly encountering the aforementioned issue, I’m now finding many tunes I want are “currently unavailable,” but if I go back the next day (or even an hour later) the file is available again. It’s frustrating!

For shits and grins I decided to see if Rhapsody had any tunes by Alvin and the Chipmunks (don’t you dare tell you haven’t seen that annoying commercial for their new CD, at least once!). I was disappointed to learn they did not have Ragtime Cowboy Joe, one of my childhood faves. However, and you may want to brace yourselves for this, the Chipmunks have done a cover of The Time Warp. Yes, mini Transylvanians everywhere can now demand a Chipmunk Magenta “fuck that bird!” *headdesk* Scarily, I would welcome a Chipmunk remake of RHPS. At least that would make sense.

My Sansa is getting a workout. As I’m typing I’m downloading HP and the Half Blood Prince onto it. After it’s done I’ll open up Rhapsody and plunk down some music tracks. Despite the fact that I’m not supposed to be able to use this particular Sansa with Rhapsody, I’ve had no problems listening to the music I’ve put on it. The only trouble I’ve had is when I try to delete the music to put more on. For some reason WMP still reads the files even though they aren’t there, and I end up having to reformat the drive. Not a biggie, since I love to completely replace my playlist eqch week. Plus the regular formatting may have something to do with the absense of licensing problems Ben and Jarret have had with their’s. šŸ™‚

In other news, I’m having fun on pointing out that Wicca requires the “worship” of BOTH a God AND a Goddess. Two of the ecclectics are calling me on this. One I haven’t bothered responding to as I’ve been confronted by her before and discovered she hasn’t a clue. The other is providing proof of why she’s right and I’m wrong in the form of “experience” and name dropping. She’s even gone as far as to say you don’t need Deity at all to be Wiccan. *rolls eyes*

Of course, if there are any on my flist who are truly experienced and feel I need a clue by four upside the head, I’d graciously accept it. While I hate being wrong, I hate being wrong and looking like an ass even more. šŸ™‚
