Upgrade update
Apr 20th, 2007 by Babs

On the advice of a fellow Simmer I decided to upgrade my computer’s memory. I originally planned to add an additional 1GB, but I found it was rather difficult to find 1GB kits for my computer. Instead I ended up with a 2GB kit. I installed it this morning. Computer booted up fine. Then I got a notice from my anti-virus that there was an update that required me to reboot. So I did. And the computer hung at the Windows loading screen. Given that this was exactly where my old computer started hanging regulalry before it’s demise, I think you can gues that I was freaking out. Luckily, after forcing it to shut down I was able to reboot using its last working configuration. The anti-virus software once again asked me to reboot, however this time the update took without fucking up my computer.

I’m giving the computer a day to get used to it’s new RAM before I install the Sims 2 Seasons, and Celebration Stuff. I did have to replace my trackball, which died earlier this week. The new one isn’t wireless but otherwise it’s identical, right down to the version of software, so I didn’t have to worry about that installation screwing things up.

Since I had ordered memory from Newegg last week and needed the trackball this week, I decided to break down and order the hard drive enclosure I’ve been eyeing along with the trackball. I have a couple of hard drives from my old computers that I want to use to hold stuff that I need, but not immediately (such as anime downloads). The enclosure will allow me to use them with the newer computer. That will get installed either tomorrow, or Sunday. Yay!

Since no one came up with any recs, I decided to give Napster a try. The first thing I did was check to see if our Sansas would be compatible. It says, on the Napster to Go compatible player page, that both teh c250 and e250 are. Yet, when I plug in my c250 it tells me it isn’t a compatible device and to check the list of compatible devices (on which the c250 is listed). *facepalm* I shot them off an email. We’ll see what tech support has to say. Good thing I discovered this during the free trial.

I picked up a copy of Sims 2 Celebrations. That is currently hanging out with Seasons until the 2GB of memory I ordered today arrives. I still plan to get Nightlife. Still not sure about University.

Olifant Vanilla Vodka and Waist Watchers Vanilla Cream Soda have been veddy veddy good to me.

Me and the girls are hanging out in my bedroom. Ben has his friend spending the night and the three boys’ rambunctious behavior have Amber and Ribbon terrified. They wouldn’t even go out to eat dinner, so it was room service tonight.

I picked up some beads to make myself a new “rosary”. Never am I going to Things Remembered again. A lot of the beads aren’t priced. I swear the owner was pulling prices out of her ass as she wrote them up. $12 for a string of warped beads? @.@ Sadly, I wouldn’t have had to do this if Playtime hadn’t stopped carrying their large hole beads. *sigh*

Finished updating babs_recipes. There’s three recipes total, now. Whoo hoo! Since some of the recipes I’ll be including come directly from my stash of cookbooks I’ve made that LJ Friends Only, so if you want to view the recipes, let me know and I’ll add you.

Can anyone recommend an ITunes-like source of mp3s that I can download onto a Sansa? Ben had Rhapsody with his first Sansa, and then he broke it. The new one doesn’t come with it, nor do either of the ones I bought for my other son and myself and we’ve been running into trouble with songs downloaded via them not playing.

Glenn came home from work today toting a large wire cage. It was one of the ones the Animal Control Officer uses to hold animals, only this one was fitted to accomodate a small critter. The particular critter in this cage was a female hamster who had been rescued from an apartment complex. Apparently her owner either let her loose, or never cared to look for her when she got loose. She’s a beautiful cinnamon colored Teddy Bear. I’ve never seen a hamster that color before. Jarret has named her Pashmina.

Tomorrow I have to pick up some real hamster food for her. It looks like the AC Officer had been feeding her bird food, which isn’t good for ever growing teeth. I will also have to put aside cash for a new cage, as we eventually have to return the one she’s in currently. The boys want a high tech Habitrail, but I’m not too keen on spending a ton of money on an animal whose age we don’t know.

Anyway, the boys are in love with her. Jarret has spent a good part of the day sitting in front of Pashmina’s cage. A boy and his ham-ham. How sweet!
