On the advice of a fellow Simmer I decided to upgrade my computer’s memory. I originally planned to add an additional 1GB, but I found it was rather difficult to find 1GB kits for my computer. Instead I ended up with a 2GB kit. I installed it this morning. Computer booted up fine. Then I got a notice from my anti-virus that there was an update that required me to reboot. So I did. And the computer hung at the Windows loading screen. Given that this was exactly where my old computer started hanging regulalry before it’s demise, I think you can gues that I was freaking out. Luckily, after forcing it to shut down I was able to reboot using its last working configuration. The anti-virus software once again asked me to reboot, however this time the update took without fucking up my computer.
I’m giving the computer a day to get used to it’s new RAM before I install the Sims 2 Seasons, and Celebration Stuff. I did have to replace my trackball, which died earlier this week. The new one isn’t wireless but otherwise it’s identical, right down to the version of software, so I didn’t have to worry about that installation screwing things up.
Since I had ordered memory from Newegg last week and needed the trackball this week, I decided to break down and order the hard drive enclosure I’ve been eyeing along with the trackball. I have a couple of hard drives from my old computers that I want to use to hold stuff that I need, but not immediately (such as anime downloads). The enclosure will allow me to use them with the newer computer. That will get installed either tomorrow, or Sunday. Yay!
