Mar 31st, 2008 by Babs

I’m currently working on Max’s “blogroll”. If anyone on my/her flist would like me to link to their fanwork site/archives/blogs, please let me know!

The Bishi Harem Fruitcake Co. online store is no more. I deleted it yesterday. Oddly, this was not as painful as I expected it to be.

Since the muses were on loan to me from Maxwell Pink, I returned them with a thank you in the form of the domain. Yes, from this day forward bishiharem.com will be the permanent home for my alter ego’s fiction archive. It’s not that I don’t trust Blogger, but between all the nonsense that’s been going on in the blogosphere as of late and the fact that I have 2GB of web space collecting dust, I decided to move the archive there for safe keeping.

I’m using WordPress for the archive. I installed it last night and began tweaking it this afternoon with the help of Lisa Sabin-Wilson’s “WordPress for Dummies”. To give you an idea of how dumb *I* can be, when I discovered the announcement of a stable update of WordPress I immediately implemented the upgrade even though Fantastico has no mention of it, yet. I did this partially because I wanted to get any upgrades out of the way before I started working with the software, partially because I know Jen harps about keeping our software up to date to protect everyone on DrakNet and this would make her happy. šŸ™‚ Of course now I’m working with a Dashboard that bears little semblance to the one in the book! Fuck!

Once I figure out where/what everything now is, make the site look pretty, and move, re-tag and upload fics I’ll let everyone know.

Now I’m wondering if I should’ve installed WordPress into its own directory so I could password protect it. *sigh*

About two years ago I asked a friend, who was feeling rather abandoned, to come join me and our friends on LJ. They refused on the grounds that they weren’t comfortable sharing their daily lives with thousands of other people. Even the friends-lock option couldn’t convince them. Today I learned he has had a Myspace account for some time, now. A fricken MYSPACE ACCOUNT!!! Yeah, that’s real private. *rolls eyes*

What really hurt was when I read that they had a close friend who helped helped out during their “difficult acceptance” phase abandon the friendship with them. Unless this person had a multitude of difficult acceptence phases over the past year and a half I can only assume they are referring to me, and I don’t think that is fair.

I was there when they thought no one else was but I have had my own shit to deal with, too. If it was that important, they could’ve contacted me. I could’ve set aside some time for them. Instead I’m labeled an abandoner.

I guess this explains why I haven’t heard from them in so long.

My Sansa is getting a workout. As I’m typing I’m downloading HP and the Half Blood Prince onto it. After it’s done I’ll open up Rhapsody and plunk down some music tracks. Despite the fact that I’m not supposed to be able to use this particular Sansa with Rhapsody, I’ve had no problems listening to the music I’ve put on it. The only trouble I’ve had is when I try to delete the music to put more on. For some reason WMP still reads the files even though they aren’t there, and I end up having to reformat the drive. Not a biggie, since I love to completely replace my playlist eqch week. Plus the regular formatting may have something to do with the absense of licensing problems Ben and Jarret have had with their’s. šŸ™‚

In other news, I’m having fun on pointing out that Wicca requires the “worship” of BOTH a God AND a Goddess. Two of the ecclectics are calling me on this. One I haven’t bothered responding to as I’ve been confronted by her before and discovered she hasn’t a clue. The other is providing proof of why she’s right and I’m wrong in the form of “experience” and name dropping. She’s even gone as far as to say you don’t need Deity at all to be Wiccan. *rolls eyes*

Of course, if there are any on my flist who are truly experienced and feel I need a clue by four upside the head, I’d graciously accept it. While I hate being wrong, I hate being wrong and looking like an ass even more. šŸ™‚

Just thought I’d pass this along…

Every day I run Adaware and Spybot to rid my computer of spyware. I’ve been using them for years and have never had any problems. Well, for about a week now, I’ve noticed that when I go to LJ,IJ, or GJ I’m logged out. At first I thought it was my ISP, but I’m now starting to see a pattern. Before I run the programs I’m already logged into all three. Afterward, I have to log in. Apparently all three have either started using cookies that are known to be spyware, or have been using ones that are now being considered spyware.

Something to think about.
