Content Update
Sep 9th, 2008 by Babs

I’ve been busy making stuff for my Town Day craft table, but I managed to find some time today to revive the Gen-X Essays from the old site. I’m kind of posting them here out of order, physically. The actual post dates are the dates they were originally posted, so they’re going to kind of stand out in the quilt. The first one, “Sex!!!” (which is actually the second essay I wrote) was posted today. I’ll see if I can get more posted tomorrow.

I bumped Maxwell Pink up to author status to get an idea of what would be accessible, for possible future reference. Yes, I’m still thinking of doing it. 😉

Weekly Update ~ 9/8/08
Sep 8th, 2008 by Babs

Well, I lost 2.5 pounds this past week (down to 165). My two intentional days off, coupled with my forced days off (due to fracturing my pinkie toe), resulted in a slight gain over the weekend. No biggie, though. 2 pounds is really the max I want to lose in a week anyway.

I got in an hour and a half of cardio. This does not include warm-up or cool-down time. I also performed two sets of strength training. After blowing off things for several months this is a much needed improvement.

I had to take today off for the aforementioned injury. My toe doesn’t really hurt anymore. It’s just swollen and starting to bruise, so I figured I’d play it safe. I’ll see how it looks tomorrow and decide if I should resume my workouts.

From the Somerville News:

Before Barack Obama was a United States senator and a presidential hopeful, he was a Harvard University law student living in Somerville who parked in bus stops and accumulated hundreds of dollars in parking tickets. And for nearly two decades those parking tickets went unpaid, until a representative of Obama’s settled all his outstanding debts with Cambridge’s Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department Jan. 26 (2007).

Obama attended Harvard Law School from 1988 to 1991. During his time at Harvard, Obama lived at 365 Broadway in Somerville, according to his parking tickets. Records from the Cambridge Traffic, Parking and Transportation office show that between Oct. 5, 1988 and Jan. 12, 1990 Obama was cited for 17 traffic violations, sometimes committing two in the same day. The abuses included parking in a resident permit area, parking in a bus stop and failing to pay the meter. Twelve of Obama’s 17 tickets were given to him on Massachusetts Avenue.

Intermittent Type Weight Loss Post
Sep 5th, 2008 by Babs

I had originally planned to make weekly posts about my losing weight and getting into shape. I still do, and was going to make my first entry this past Monday. But between the holiday weekend resulting in a 2 pound weight gain I wasn’t exactly in the mood to write about it, even if I did want to bring up my new regimen.

Today is a different day, however. I began a workout schedule of 30 minutes of cardio 6 days a week and 3 days of strength training (Prevention magazine is a wonderful source of inspiration for working out). By yesterday I was beginning to wear out, even though I had already been working out 3 days a week previously (30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 45 minutes, respectively). I took yesterday off and went to bed early last night. This morning I decided to weigh myself, just for shits and grins, and learned I had dropped 4 pounds.

Let me at those Cakesters!

If this trend continues I fear I will have to increase my calorie intake. Yes!

It’s a Done Deal

I’ve been in contact with David Hayes, the creator of Kaleidoscope. He developed an update that addresses the big issues I had. I absolutely love designers that take the time to connect with the users of their themes! I still need to adjust the font sizes, and do some tweaking to make the theme look better in Firefox. I also have to put the search widget in. I completely forgot it was taken out of the theme proper in favor of a redesigned widget. Anyways, Kaleidoscope is now the official theme of “A Web Site Created by Babs.”

I was reading David’s “About” page. It appears we have at least one thing in common: the need for the perfect template/theme and the lack thereof forcing us to teach ourselves how to play with other people’s code. I still need to brush up on my knowledge of stupid CSS tricks, and then I get to have fun learning about PHP. Maybe then I can start designing themes of my own. Yay!
