The Great Gundam Wing Rewatch
April 30th, 2006 by Babs

The month of May 2006 is

The Great Gundam Wing Rewatch

Attention Gundam Wing fans, new and old, active and retired:

This month let’s have a fandom-wide event! You needn’t contribute anything but the time it takes to watch the Gundam Wing series in the month of May. When was the last time you watched the series in its entirety? It’s time for both nostalgia and fresh inspiration.

Let’s remind ourselves why we’re fans and get as many fanfic writers and readers, fan artists, and fandom lurkers to participate as possible. Together we can laugh at Trowa’s hair and count how many times Heero lands on his head. We can ponder the politics and contrast the philosophies. We can revisit all our favourite moments of the show. So dust off your DVD’s or your videos and join in the fun. The more the merrier!

Please pimp this as widely as you can.

This is a bit OT and whatnot but as someone who couild just never get into the Gundam fandom… aren’t there like a dozen Gundam series with a bunch of episodes each? I thought it was sort of like Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball in that there are hundreds of hundreds of episodes. Or am I way off the ball here?

Yes, there are many “Gundam” series.

“Gundam Wing”, however, is only ONE of those many series. Only one season (and one movie)

Ohh… ok. I’ve always wanted to get into it but its just a bit intimidating as to where you can start. KWIM?

The main difference between Gundam and Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball is that each Gundam series was independant of the others. Some followed the timeline set out by the original series (from the 70’s), but were still completely different series. Others, like Gundam Wing, are considered AU (alternate universe). Some of them were even done in different styles. To the best of my knowledge both Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball contain all the same characters in all of their variations.

Rats, I don’t quite have all of it. MOST of it, but not all. But, anyway, it’d probably only take me a few days at the most.

I’m thinking if I watch two eps a day I can do the whole series, plus Endless Waltz, within the month with time to spare, and without taking up too much of my time.

I don’t know if it’s possible, but I could try burning copies of the missing eps for you. Ya know, until you can purchase the remaining DVDs.
