Death to Dell!
January 11th, 2008 by Babs

My uncle once told me that Dell computers are either really good, or utter crap. Can you guess which one I got stuck with?

Replaced motherboard? Check.

Replaced power supply? Check.

Booted computer? Check.

Replay of front USB hub frying computer? Check.

Apparently the Dell E510/5150 is being referred to as a $1000 paper weight. Thankfully I only paid $749 for mine… up front that is.

On a positive note, they managed to locate a replacement for the part Dell doesn’t offer a replacement for (the front USB hub). Something the Computer Cafe wouldn’t do. Estimated time of pickup is now Monday.

Sorry hon. I got some good ones, and the warranty normally covers everything on them. Sorry you have such a hard time with them.

      Thanks!

Honestly, I wouldn’t be so frustrated if the computer wasn’t less than two years old. Too old to be covered by Dell’s warranty, but too new to really consider replacing. Especially since its predecessor, a machine I built myself, gave me nearly 5 years before the motherboard died. I probably would’ve gotten more use out of it, too, if I had realized the random rebooting was due to a bad power cord. šŸ™
