Site Update
Feb 6th, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Site Update</div>

Today’s post is being brought to you by the following search terms: babs,  babs sex,  megas xlr free torrent complete series,  emile hirsch,  collage babs.

Just a quickie to let everyone know that the chili recipe I used for the Super Bowl is now up at “Babs Get’s Cooking”. It came out really yummy. In fact Ben enjoyed it so much I was only able to get one bowl of it before he devoured it all. Damn teenagers!

I also wanted to pass along a tidbit of info to my fellow WordPress users: Avoid the “Multiple Category Selection Widget.” And if you have it, don’t upgrade to 1.0.  I had planned on using this widget for the recipe site — had even installed and activated it — however I never quite got around to actually placing the widget in the site’s sidebar. Even so, a recent update of the widget still resulted in it interfering with the links on the site. Every link would take me to the most recent post. 😛 As soon as I deativated it everything worked fine again. The same thing is happening over at The Pinkish Pages, where I do have it in use. *sighs* I guess I have some work to do.

ETA: I’ve just been informed that if you go to the widget’s page at WordPress and click the link for “Other Versions” you can download 1.1, which fixes the issue.

Stuff
Feb 1st, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Stuff</div>

I had planned on getting at least one new fic uploaded to the Pinkish Pages today. Then I discovered the site was broken. At some point, between the last addition and now, a Starscape theme upgrade made several of my widgets produce errors. I’m sure the theme’s designer will say that the problem is with the widgets because his code is flawless (he boasts this in his read me.txt files), but after testing the widgets out with a new theme, at the still under heavy construction Lavender Room, everything worked fine. He is also responsible for the original rating system I was using on the site. One which I had to tweak, one way or another, each time he updated it. Needless to say both have been replaced. The new theme is a flexible/variable width one, so I don’t have to really worry about line length. Visitors can just reduce the size of the window (and zoom in, if necessary) for optimum ease in reading. It was also created by someone who knows just about as much about style sheets as I do (which is just enough to get by), so it was fairly easy to change the color scheme. My only concern is those who still surf using the dreaded IE. You get a runtime error on every page if you view it in that browser. Luckily, most of my friends have the smarts to be using something else. Right?

Glenn is sitting on his ass, watching the Super Bowl. I had planned on recording it — if only to watch the commercials — but then remembered what happened I when I did this last year. For three months Glenn watched the stupid thing every night. He’d probably still be watching it if it hadn’t accidentally been deleted. Anyways, I figure they always have them available for viewing online and I’m sure someone on my f-list will be nice enough to share the link to the site, if I don’t find it first. I made chili for the event. It wasn’t the traditional vegetarian crock pot recipe that I always forget to write down. Everyone and their mother seems to have wanted the book it comes from as all five library copies were on hold. I managed to find a veggie-ful recipe in another crock pot book. It contains meat, including bacon, and takes forever to cook, but it came out yummy! I’ll see if I can get it uploaded to my cook book this week.

I’m now off to confiscate the bottle of vodka Glenn thinks he is hiding from me. I just need some Diet Dew.

A Post to Test the Updated Theme

David updated Kaleidoscope so that it’s compatible with WP 2.7. I’ve upgraded the theme and now I want to test to see if (and how) the threaded comments feature works. Feel free to comment to your heart’s content.

Home Sweet Home
Jan 3rd, 2009 by Babs

“A Web Site Created by Babs” has always been my baby. When I ended up on LiveJournal, thanks to a Gundam Wing role playing game, I figured it would make a great way to keep the site’s “What’s News” page up to date. Then came the issues with Tripod and AWSCBB fell to the wayside in favor of LJ, IJ and Blogger. I didn’t mind too much. I had made a lot of friends at these journaling spots.

While working on “Maxwell Pink Tells Stories,” however, the itch to recreate the website started up and quickly intensified. Late last summer I decided to scratch it. I’ve made a few random posts, mostly due to DrakNet’s disabling the XML-RPC required to crosspost here via Semagic (for security reasons), but also because a lot of what I post is personal and it was just easier to put it in a f-locked post in the other journals. Today, however, I decided to make this my sole blog. It’s nothing personal, in fact I will continue to read my f-lists and participate in the communities I belong to. It’s just that, as I stated earlier, “A Web Site Created by Babs” is my baby, and it’s time I stopped being a neglectful parent.

Since I don’t have the “clearance” (aka upgraded accounts) on either IJ and LJ I can’t create a feed that those on my f-lists can friend and use to  easily keep up to date of my nonsense, so (at least for now) I will be manually feeding by posting links to my current posts. I would like to encourage everyone to subscribe to both my post and comment feeds (links to both can be found below), though, as well as registering. The latter allows you to post comments while providing the site some protection from spam.

Thanks for the good times! I truly hope everyone will continue to read me, here.

Another Pinkish Pages Update
Oct 4th, 2008 by Babs

The site’s theme has been tweaked as much as I am capable of. I started adding fics to get a real idea as to how things are working.

Found a small glitch in the Author Pages. It’s ignoring the default settings, showing only 5 posts when there should be 10. To make matters worse when a page reaches its post capacity it can’t find the next page. 🙁 I over-rid the settings, manually, so that should show ALL posts.  It may be a pain in the ass to scroll through tons of chapters written by one author, but it’s better than not being able to find them at all. I’m more concerned about the multi-category search having the same problem. If I have time today, I’ll get more stuff up. As I’m currently adding BlueSpaceRanger’s pieces, I should be able to get an idea of what will happen.

If you’d like to take a look, and offer some feedback, you can check out the site here. The site isn’t officially open, yet, so please leave and comments here.
