The Week in a Review
Mar 8th, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">The Week in a Review</div>

A few things I forgot to mention in earlier posts:

Web Bank locked me out of my account. I understand the need to play 20 questions when I’ve removed all identifying information from my computer, but really, if I answer the questions correctly do not slap me with an error message essentially telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about. It took me three days to get access to my account restored. Partially because Web Bank customer support is only available during regular banking hours (yes, I’m still trying to see the logic in that), partly because when CS was available Glenn (who is the primary account holder and has to give permission to reset unlock the account) was not. Note to self: Tell them I’m Glenn from now on.

No sooner did I regain access to my Web Bank account when I discovered my debit card had been frozen. Mine was one of many that been compromised during the hacking of Mastercard a few weeks back. While I’m glad they disabled the card, it would’ve been nice if they had sent me a replacement, first. So I had to call the bank and have them cancel the replacement that I had not received and issue another card — for which I have to wait up to 10 business days for. Despite the inconvenince it’s a good thing the second card never arrived. According to my friend at the bank a good percentage of the replacement cards had also been compromised. I don’t know if it’s due to Mastercard issuing already compromised numbers, or if they got hacked a second time. Either way, if you happen to have been a victim keep close tabs on your statements, even if you received a new card.

Some updates:

Drs. Foster and Smith are sending me a postage-paid label to return the tank light. This saves me $25+. Supposedly they have also already sent out a replacement light. Heck, as long as I eventually get it, and it’s in one peice, I’ll be happy.

Glenn’s truck made the news. Fox 25 must’ve had a slow news day. He has changed his story about the truck’s theft. He now longer tells everyone he left the keys in the ignition (and yes, he is boasting about this to anyone who will listen) but instead left them on the floor on the truck. Personally, I would’ve stuck with the original version, unless the DPW does know you don’t need to have the keys in the ignition to run the CB radio. Oh, and the truck still has yet to be found. Given how hard it is to miss a bright fricken yellow truck I’m thinking the Town isn’t really looking for the piece of crap and is, instead, holding out for the insurance money to buy a brand spanking new truck.

In the new news department I went to a friend’s wedding yesterday. Since my presence is currently in demand I’ll have to post more about it later.

Proof that Payback is a Bitch
Mar 3rd, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Proof that Payback is a Bitch</div>

I went to snag some cash out of Pig (my piggy bank) in order to get myself a bottle of medicinal Diet Dew from the corner store.

Someone has been helping themselves to Pig’s contents.

That someone returned from work today. It seems that while he was busy salting the Munincipal Lot, leaving the Town-owned truck he was driving unattended (and keys still in the ignition), another someone hopped in and stole it. The police have yet to retrieve it.

I believe I owe the cosmos a thank you note.

My Kingdom for a New Theme!
Feb 20th, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">My Kingdom for a New Theme!</div>

I’ve been spending the last few hours finishing up Maxwell’s site. All the fics have been untagged and recategorized to work with the Multiple Category Selection Widget, with hope that it will make it easier for readers to find their kinks. šŸ™‚ The site is as updated as it’s going to get until we find a theme that screams “Max”. I’m still pissed that roam2rome bailed on her Coffee Desk theme. That was the best one, so far.

On a related note, can anyone tell me the significance of using Feedburner? I was running the feed for Max’ site through them, but Google’s mandatory move kinda fucked things up. If there’s a really good reason (i.e. other than knowing how many subscribers via RSS Max has) I might attempt to fix it. Otherwise I’m going to stick with the original post/comment feeds.

The preteen is grounded again. He just will not leave the ringer on the new phone alone! I hate grounding him (it’s as much punishment for me as it is for him) but I have no idea what else to do.

I picked up the yarn to make the skirt I mentioned in a previous post. One of the good things about Caron Simply Soft is that it has no dye lot. Since the pattern doesn’t give yarn requirements for the big girl sizes I had to estimate. If I run out before I’m finished I can easily get more, without worrying about a chunk of the skirt having a noticeable change in coloration.

We took the boys out to Chipotle for dinner. While the preteen enjoyed his pizza from Subway, the rest of us snarfed down burritos. I still think Boloco is better (and cheaper) but Ben was quite content with his bean-free chicken burrito and bottle if Izze.

Still exercising. Aside from Monday (my shoulder) and Wednesday (Ooo! Shiny!) I’ve been keeping on top of things. Ben was entertaining himself earlier today by poking at my belly and watching it jiggle. I’m at that point were the muscle is starting to get toned, but the skin and the fat still need to catch up. šŸ˜›

Now I have to plug in my Sansa Clip (which, I’m told, rivals the Creative Zen Stone and makes the iPod Shuffle fanboys cry) and see if the firmware update solves my recently developed problem with long subscription tracks popping and snapping — something I so enjoy listening to while I’m trying to meditate. Wish me luck!

Weekly Weigh In (and Other Drama)
Feb 3rd, 2009 by Babs

Today’s post is being brought to you by the following search terms: babs,Ā  babs sex,Ā  sex babs,Ā  drum corps torrents,Ā  chris young torrents.

One of these days I’m going actually do this weekly AND on Monday. *laughs*

I’ve gained another pound. šŸ˜› So yesterday I announced to the household that I would no longer put my exercise routine second to anyone else’s plans. This totally pissed off Glenn. He took off both yesterday and today, with a long list of things to do. Yesterday he said he was going to run an errand, before we ran out to pick up some things, and I could use the living room to workout while he was gone (how gracious of him *rolls eyes*). Then he left — without a word and with the TV still on so I thought he was coming right back. After about half an hour I realize he’d gone to do whatever he was going to do, so I proceeded with my workout. Shortly thereafter he returns with “You’re not done, yet?” Come to find out he hadn’t run the errand, but was helping a neighbor move into her new apartment, instead. I tell him I have about another half an hour to go, so he leaves again. This time for an hour. Still helping the neighbor. Now, on top of this, he wanted to shave his head before we left, which he could’ve done while I was exercising. But he didn’t. Yet somehow I’m the one wasting his time.

Today was more of the same. “We need to get out and do things before the weather gets bad,” he says. As this was early in the morning and the worst of the weather wasn’t due untill this afternoon, I wasn’t in any hurry. In fact I quoted his favorite mantra, “I’m not killing myself for anyone.” His response: “Fine! We just won’t do anything, then.”

Fine. At least I know I have three less obstacles to achieving my fitness goal.

Stuff
Feb 1st, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Stuff</div>

I had planned on getting at least one new fic uploaded to the Pinkish Pages today. Then I discovered the site was broken. At some point, between the last addition and now, a Starscape theme upgrade made several of my widgets produce errors. I’m sure the theme’s designer will say that the problem is with the widgets because his code is flawless (he boasts this in his read me.txt files), but after testing the widgets out with a new theme, at the still under heavy construction Lavender Room, everything worked fine. He is also responsible for the original rating system I was using on the site. One which I had to tweak, one way or another, each time he updated it. Needless to say both have been replaced. The new theme is a flexible/variable width one, so I don’t have to really worry about line length. Visitors can just reduce the size of the window (and zoom in, if necessary) for optimum ease in reading. It was also created by someone who knows just about as much about style sheets as I do (which is just enough to get by), so it was fairly easy to change the color scheme. My only concern is those who still surf using the dreaded IE. You get a runtime error on every page if you view it in that browser. Luckily, most of my friends have the smarts to be using something else. Right?

Glenn is sitting on his ass, watching the Super Bowl. I had planned on recording it — if only to watch the commercials — but then remembered what happened I when I did this last year. For three months Glenn watched the stupid thing every night. He’d probably still be watching it if it hadn’t accidentally been deleted. Anyways, I figure they always have them available for viewing online and I’m sure someone on my f-list will be nice enough to share the link to the site, if I don’t find it first. I made chili for the event. It wasn’t the traditional vegetarian crock pot recipe that I always forget to write down. Everyone and their mother seems to have wanted the book it comes from as all five library copies were on hold. I managed to find a veggie-ful recipe in another crock pot book. It contains meat, including bacon, and takes forever to cook, but it came out yummy! I’ll see if I can get it uploaded to my cook book this week.

I’m now off to confiscate the bottle of vodka Glenn thinks he is hiding from me. I just need some Diet Dew.
