Update on the Apartment
Jun 1st, 2009 by Babs

<div class=\"pavatar\">Update on the Apartment</div>

Last Thursday I tweeted about a 3 bedroom that had been offered to us by the Housing Corp. There was a little bit of confusion when, the next day, we received a letter from them saying there were no units available and that we had been put on their waiting list. So I assumed that they had referred us to a realtor, since we have Sec. 8. Technically, however, we are only eligible for a two bedroom under Sec. 8, though I have been pushing for a 3 bedroom as Ben is an adult and the preteen has some issues that having his own room would help.

Anyway, we saw the apartment today. It is through the Housing Corp. and the rent may be low enough that Sec. 8 can’t give us any crap (we had been told before that if we could find a 3 bedroom within the range of a 2 bedroom, we could take it). It’s one floor of a two family house. It’s a little run down but no more so than the current condition of the apartment we have now. The livingroom and the bedrooms are about the same size to a little smaller than here. I was psyched to see that it had a decent sized dining area and was floored when I saw the size of the kitchen. It is twice the size of our kitchen! This is partly due to there being space for a washer and dryer (which we won’t be getting, so the freezer can reside there) but even considering that it’s still large enough for us to put a small dining table in and be able to move around freely. And it has a dishwasher! Woot!

The way the Housing Corp. works is that each time a unit becomes available they take the top three people on the waiting list for that size apartment. According to the realtor, one has already been ruled out due to a shitty credit history. So that leaves us and another. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that 18 years of being in one place will be enough to get us the place because I have had little luck finding anything within our price range and we have less than a month to get out.

Positive energy will be welcomed and appreciated!
