A question for the gamers

Is anyone familiar with the game MUGEN? The preteen has been begging me to install it but with the information I’ve been finding online I’m not sure which, if any, source/version I should trust. Any insight from the pros would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

If it’s the game I think it is, it’s pretty much been abandoned by the developer. Several version of it still be out there for download, but many of them were written for DOS, not Windows, and the majority of all of them seem to have “adware”, which makes me distrust it to begin with.

If you can locate one of the “clean” (no adware, etc.) versions, it might be a good play.

  It’s probably the same. A standard fighting game created back in 1999 and later abandoned by its developer. There are supposedly dozens of versions/hacks available for Windows but you have confirmed my suspicions about the adware/spyware/virus issue. The only reason the boys (the preteen has got the teen interested in it now) are really interested in it is because so many characters have been created by individual gamers.
  
  I may take a look at the version mentioned in the tutorial the preteen found on YouTube. If I get a reasonably good vibe from that one I might give it a try, but not without thoroughly scanning it to death first. 🙂
