Thank you Sir/Ma’am! May I have another?
July 3rd, 2008 by Babs

This week… sheesh! I swear my Gods are sitting back, sharing a bucket of buttered popcorn.

Sunday night I was sitting in front of my computer, writing a response to an email posted in a Yahoogroup I belong to when the pre-teen comes in demanding I check his room because there is a loud noise coming from the walls. I go in and hear a loud hiss coming from the pipes in the back. My forst thought is that it’s someone in the third floor apartment taking a shower. It’s just louder because the tenants between us had moved out earlier that day. Before I could answer, however, I felt a drop of water hit my head. Then another. Then I see water dripping down from the door jam of the bathroom. In the five minutes it takes me to call the answering service the hallway goes from drips to deluge. By the time maintainence shows up, twenty minutes later, our hallway, bathroom, and three quarters of the master bedroom are soaked to sloshiness. All MY clothes got soaked, meanwhile all of Glenn’s stayed bone dry. Glenn futher lucked out as the four piles of his dirty clothes that had been sitting in the middle of the floor as I refused to wash them were drenched and I had no choice but to wash them. šŸ™ The cause of the flood? One of the pipes under the toilet in the apartment above us “burst”. Coincidentally, one of the things our neighbors moved out with was a metal rack that fits around the toilet. We are still drying out.

As we had to sleep in the livingroom I left my earrings sitting on the table when we finally went to bed Sunday night/Monday morning. I specifically told everyone to be careful. Monday morning I find two of my three earrings–the one that’s missing is part of a pair I just bought!

Tuesday night a transformer(?) outside our apartment blew with a major bang and we were without power for an hour and a half. That, in of itself, wasn’t such a bad thing. It was when we stepped outside for cool air, only to be “entertained” with one of nature’s light shows… complete with loud booms, strong winds, and a downpour. The following morning the boys discovered the remnants of a fried squirrel beneath the pole where the transformer was.

Because all our phones are electric, I had to use my cell phone to call NSTAR about the outtage. The battery died midway through the call. When the power returned I plugged it in to charge I learned that the pin inside the phone had snapped, meaning I now needed a new phone. I checked T-Mobile’s site that night and found a Samsung Stripe for $70. I’m not as confident about Samsung phones as I am their monitors, but it was the best deal. I figured I could order it Friday. Wednesday morning I found I had enough money in my account to order the phone right away. Found the phone on the site. It was now $150! Went out to dinner that night so I paid a visit to my local Target to see what they had for T-Mobile phones. They had the Stripe for $80. Bought it, took it home, compared it to the one on the site to make sure I got a decent deal. The price was back down to $70!!!!!! Damn! And I can’t take it back to Target because the last time I tried it (with the preteen’s phone), their computers refused to accept the return.

Today I learned that the state has jacked up the price of cigarettes (including my kreteks) another buck, plus tax. As my neighbor joked, I picked a good time to start smoking again. Also, it appears Whole Foods has ceased to carry any of the Halo, Purely for Pets line, aside from their dog and cat foods. This means I now have to go to Petco, who claims to have exclusive rights to the line, and pay their exclusive prices for Halo’s Dream Coat, Vita-Mineral Powder and Liv-a-Littles. *sigh*

There’s still tomorrow, but given that I have a parade with the corps. (from which Glenn has been banned) and Glenn is already giving me attitude about the start time, I’m not really holding my breath.

      Thanks!

Yesterday wasn’t all that bad. A slight drizzle before the parade stepped off and we had to deal with our “groupies” (who drove for four hours and were staying at a hotel, just so they could have the honor of carrying water for the corps.), but other than that it went well. So things are looking up. šŸ™‚

I’m trying to take it in stride, now, after being reminded that four weeks ago I could’ve landed in my local hospital’s emergency room (courtesy of the teen’s stupidity). Compared to what COULD’VE happened, this week doesn’t seem so bad anymore. *laughs*
