Something’s Funky at the Fogies
March 12th, 2008 by Babs

Was playing the Sims 2 this morning. One of the Bloom kids and his mate took over the Oldies’ home. Actually Trey Bloom had an affair with Mrs. Oldie (which probably gave her husband a heart attack). When she died he took over the lot and brought in his lover, Jason.

I haven’t played the lot since Jason moved in but let me tell ya, there’s some funky shit going on. The ever so talented Jason can now open the refrigerator door from the livingroom, and pull foodstuffs and simoleons out of the sofa. The equally talented Trey is now a contortionist, prefering to place plates on tables with his back turned to them. Then there’s the invisible transporter that zips them from the chair in the livingroom to the kitchen. Trey also uses it to transport into bed after he levitates wherever he’s at. Of course the funniest part is that they’ve both developed a fear of the microwave, freaking out every time they see it. šŸ™‚

Obviously there’s a glitch. Fortunately it does not appear to affect any of the other lots (not as of yet). I briefly panicked after installing Night Life and Gieke zipped once through his upstairs bedroom (in a new home), but it hasn’t happened since I added a bed.

Maybe if I practice a little Feng Shui I might remedy the problem?

Have you tried installing the patches from the website?

I have been pretty good about keeping up with the patches, and when I installed Nightlife yesterday it checked for updates and said the software was already up to date. *shrugs* I’ll take a jaunt over the site now and see if there’s anything I may have missed.

Still, it’s funny as hell watching them leap into the air, shrieking, every time they see the microwave.

*g* I had a broken house where there was a blank corner of the property that would make them do that. Eventually, I just moved everyone out of the house, not with the Find New Place option, but with the neighborhood option. That cleaned out whatever had snarled it.

Recently, though, that hasn’t worked. There’s a problem with Bon Voyage in which lots become unusable; the patch fixes the problem, but not the lots that are already broken. I lost one of my resorts that way. Not even taking it out of the neighborhood and putting it back in worked. I just had to delete it.

I downloaded the patches and installed them. Aside from Nightlife, which is a given, the only expansion that “required” a patch was Pets, which I had patched previously. Either changes have been made to the patch, or something got corrupted. I’m hoping this fixes things. If not, the house is a low end model. I’m sure they’ll be moving out soon, so I’ll use the neighborhood option when that happens.

So, I’ve got Nightlife, OFB, Pets, and Seasons. Aside from University and Bon Voyage, and a bunch of fashion packs, what have I got left to acquire? šŸ™‚

FreeTime! Which is a terrific pack. And of the fashion/decor packs, the only two I have left to grab are Family Fun and Celebrations. I’m going to skip Family Fun, because it looks stupidly themed.

Home Decor, another stuff pack, is coming out soon. After that, I’m guessing they’ll be turning their focus entirely to Sims 3.

Ironically those are the two fashion packs I have. While Family Fun was a big deal for me (it was my first Sims 2 add-on), you aren’t really missing much. I liked the additional clothes, but a lot of the furnishings are hideous, IMHO.

Since I had to send back a defective DVD to Amazon, and I know any replacement is also going to be defective, I’m going to put the refund toward another expansion pack. I just need to decide which one. I’m still on the fence about University. Have you really enjoyed that one?

OMG, I love University. I really do. It’s a completely different time frame for the kids who go there. Instead of having your Monday through Friday week, you have “semesters” that are three days long. The kids are in school every day, one class a day, for three days, for eight semesters. As you get through the school year, you accrue two more want reels and get the ability at some point to lock two instead of one.

It also gives you a HUGE boost in getting out and finding a job. You don’t start on the bottom; if you graduate with honors, you can, in your preferred field, jump in at the middle of your career track.

There are dorms and sororities, you can have toga parties and graduation parties, frat kids wander off at random and come back with pizza or electronic toys, and relationship building is fun and easy.

I love playing the dorm kids almost more than the rest of the game. It’s for me the best expansion pack, period.

            And yeah, I’m gushing. *g*
