Does anyone on my flist happen to know anything about YaBB?

I’ve been wanting to create a message board for my store for the longest, so that I could post the little snippets of ideas as they came to me (I suck at writing articles). I created a really nice board at ezboard (because Tripod doesn’t do PHP), but it’s going to cost me a pretty penny to keep it ad free, especially once it develops a community.

Well the other day I discovered Tripod’s been sitting on their own modified version of YaBB (based on YaBB 1.3.1) which I can upload to my site and use my space which is cheaper, so I’m now loooking into that. My only concern is security issues. I’ve read that older versions weren’t that secure, and since this one is based on a version that is at least two years old, I’m a bit worried that it could be easily hacked into.

Maybe I should just stick with ezboard?

Yo Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum!
Jul 10th, 2006 by Babs

I was organizing my coupons today. I keep them filed in the Pirates of the Caribbean folders I bought last fall. While drooling over Captain Jack Sparrow, I thought of something.

I am an Oliverette! The Pirate King Thomas’ advisor on all things piratical and magickal, to be exact.

And I’ve got dreadlocks.

I should be embracing my inner pirate dammit!

So I’ve commissioned my friend Mary to make some dread beads for me (I’m hoping to have some available for sale at me store, too), and I’m going to go shopping for some durable cotton tees that I can convert into dread bands. I’ll start with those (and maybe a ruffled shirt) and see if I can start a trend around here. :) I don’t see why the hell not. I’ve been noticing an increase in dread heads locally ever since I had mine started. Plus, if I remember my fashion history correctly, we should be coming ’round to pirate style soon, if not already. Didn’t the pirate look inspired by the Pirates of Penzance show up at the end of the 70′s (which is about where we are currently at fashion-wise)? I think the only thing that might have preceeded it is “50′s style as seen in Grease” look. *shrugs*

Oh well, I’ll either be a “trendsetter” or a freaky old lady. *laughs*

You Know You’re Getting Old When….

You find a book at the library titled “101 Things to Do Before You Turn 40″ and check it out, wondering how many of these things you can actually accomplish before you turn 40. Then you get home with the book and remember that in 4 months you’re going to turn 42!

Dear Abercrombie & Fitch,

Thank you for the billboards. Particularly the one featuring a well muscled male chest. And only a well muscled male chest.

Much love,

Babs
