Why I hate African Navel oranges
Oct 26th, 2005 by Babs

1. They don’t have bellybuttons. That, right there, is blasphemous in my book.

2. Most people eat navel oranges because they don’t have seeds. Occasionally you might come across a mutant with tiny seeds, but it’s rare. Not only is there a greater chance of coming across one with seeds in the African variety, but the seeds are larger. Pttui!

3. This may very well be an issue with either the supermarket or the wholesaler, but I have yet to eat one that wasn’t dry and fiberous, despite their outer appearance to the contrary.

Dear Pretty Boy Romeo,

I don’t care what your netspeaking little ass thinks you were doing. Unless you can provide me with proof to the contrary, joining a mailing list and then making a post promoting your group a minute later is spamming.

It doesn’t help your cause that the list you joined is for fan fiction and art, and you’re promoting a group that illegally distributes licensed material that is also irrelevent to the list. Nor does admitting that you joined our “shit” so you could promote your group. I understand “Is hard strting up” (I think). Try doing it for a living.

Be thankful I merely rejected your post and sent you a gentle reminder that the TOS you neglected to read clearly states that spamming is not allowed. I could’ve banned you outright!

I thought your silence in response to this matter was an indication that you got a clue. However upon opening my email this morning, I see this is not the case.

See ya!

Random Stuff

I’m just sitting here, listening to the wind from the menage a trois of storms that are looming over New England. Remind me to bitch slap that skank who demanded we try and control the weather.

Signed up for NaNoWriMo. *shrugs* What could it hurt? And who knows, I might actually acomplish something. Most of you should know my pen name already, but if you don’t and you wish to look me up on the website, you can email and ask me nicely. :o )

Ordered my motherboard after nearly having a heart attack. It figures as soon as the drum corps gives me the check for the thing, Mirco Center ceases to carry it. In fact they seem to have dumped all of their Socket A boards, except for the mini ATX ones, which is ironic since I didn’t see any mini ATX cases at their local store.

Someone suggested New Egg, where I found a shitload of Socket A motherboards. Alas, only two of them were compatible with either Kingston or Crucial memory. One had lots of good reports but the bads ones all referred to either DOA boards or those that died a year later. The other one’s manufacturer’s site gave conflicting information about whether it was LAN ready (if I’m going to have to keep my ethernet card I’m going to need more than three PCI slots). Their customer support didn’t help either. Telling me you don’t know the answer to my question because you’re only the board’s manufacturer does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner (bad online business owner!), but I eventually used Froogle and found the board I originally wanted, cheaper than it had been at Mirco Center. Now all I need is the memory and some luck that I can install XP onto two hard drives, transfer the crap from the one that’s currently in there onto either a new one or (if we can resusitate it) my original 60GB drive, then reformat it. Hey, it worked when I first upgraded to this computer. Granted the othr disk still had Win95 on it.

It apprears WinMX has gone bye bye. I’ve been trying to log on for two weeks with no luck, so I checked their site. The software is no longer available for download. If I have time today I might see if I can find torrents of the incomplete files I still have.

Maybe this is paranoia, but I’ve noticed that ever since I haven’t been able to access WinMX my cable modem’s activity light has been flashing more often than an exhibitionist. It’s obviously incoming activity as I see it even when I lock my firewall. Luckily my firewall has been blocking the intruders. Which reminds me I need to renew my firewall…

Learned something new
Oct 24th, 2005 by Babs

Last night I learned NaNoWriMo isn’t indigenous to the online community. Apparently there are a couple of related forums happening in and around Boston next month.

I might actually give it a try.

I know I said I was going to attempt the SDQB Halloween Challenge, and I know it’s almost the deadline and I only have a paragraph written, but NaNoWriMo might be a good thing, if I (and the muses) follow the rules. Write as much as I can within the month of November. No revising, no editing, no self-censoring. In theory that ought to get a good chunk of “AU” out of my head.

In theory.

Of course we need to work out the whole POV thing, first.

I’ve decided that “Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bo” must have a two joint minimum.

If someone tells me the original Japanese version is even more fucked, I think I’m going to cry. :o )
